Price gouging at it's finest and keeping a disabled person in an unhealthy situation.
I have PEX pipes, which is $4 per foot, $3 for t-joints, you would think plumber time per hour no higher than $150. The damage line is less than 3'. I know, I put myself in harm's way to look and check it myself. 50' of PEX is $15 at Amazon. Joints range from 0.25c to $6 each. 8 clips - $1, 1 T joint $6, hose joint 0.57c.
What did they tell me after only seeing the sink and not getting under my manufactured house? $180 for the estimate (for 5 mins), and $600 for repairs.
To complicate matter? They had made an agreement with my insurance company since this an ER situation. The way the house is set up, the main water has to be off to avoid damage. They agreed to check it out and repair it on Friday, after I had been without main water since Tuesday of the same week. I had an email from my insurance's effort to go out of contract to find a repair solution. PCS agreed to it to them, then a 2nd time to me when I called as instructed to set up the Friday appointment.
On Friday, after the plumber left, and he was very courteous, he was great. However, when I was called back from PCS, they were insisting cash from me, directly. No, this isn't what we agreed on.
The Manager of the business got on the phone call and accused me of trying to back out of paying cash for the repairs. I'm on SSI, disability. I read the email I got from my insurance to her, and she pushed again for the nearly $800 bill. I told her that I'm on SSI, there is a reason I pay for home repair insurance.
'We NEVER work with insurances.'
Well, you did this time, I have the email to prove it. You agreed to it yesterday when I was told to call, and 2nd time when I confirmed the details with your staff.
This ended the call. I'm still without repairs, having to look up ways to handle my health and care with limited water. No way to wash my bed pads, no way to wash dishes, no way to shower.
Look, I get it, plumbing is a tough and dirty business. Trying to make certain you are paid fairly is a genuine concern.
Still, the agreement was $125 for inspection with paper work for my insurance to be paid with the 'outside claim', and $245 for the job, at max, through the same claim set up. Nothing was in the agreement where I pay out of pocket, nor deserved to be chewed out this way for trying to have my water back to functioning as Federal Law demands it.
Nothing in my research can clarify why there was such an excessive mark up. I can only conclude one of two things: They are being greedy and trying to take advantage of a disabled person. Or second: they never wanted the job and did this to justify backing out.
Nothing justifies putting me through the hoops, wasting valuable time to find a genuine solution which could have been found Friday morning, so Monday/Weds could have had an in the system insurance approved plumber fix the job. Now I'm left with waiting for Monday, and being told I am not seeing repairs until September. Let this sink in. The leak started on the 6th... I am looking at 9/2/2024. A possible month without water for anything, because of 3' of busted line, and people playing games and not being responsible adults. Apathy at it's best.
I have recorded and dated everything, reported to those who need to know. I wanted folks to know if you have a similar situation where your repair insurance decides to do something similar, to attempt an 'outside claim solution' to involve this business, NO. Don't do it. Find someone else, if anyone else is available. This is my personal advice based on my horrible Friday experience.
