SCAPE Landscape Architecture

Transform underutilized urban spaces into vibrant, community-focused parks and public realms with SCAPE's comprehensive design services. Our urban park design process begins with extensive community engagement and site analysis to understand the unique needs, history, and ecological context of each location. We specialize in creating multi-functional public spaces that serve diverse populations while integrating sustainable systems and resilient design strategies.

This service is ideal for municipalities, community organizations, developers, and institutions looking to create or revitalize public parks, plazas, streetscapes, and community gathering spaces in New York. Our team manages the entire design process from conceptual visioning through construction documentation, ensuring that each project balances aesthetic excellence with practical maintenance considerations and long-term durability.

What sets SCAPE apart is our integrated approach that combines landscape architecture with ecological planning. We don't just design beautiful spaces—we create functioning ecosystems that manage stormwater, support local biodiversity, and adapt to changing climate conditions. Our award-winning projects like Tom Lee Park and Town Branch Commons demonstrate our ability to transform challenging urban sites into beloved community assets that stand the test of time.

Working with us means partnering with a team that understands the complexities of urban public projects, from navigating regulatory requirements to facilitating meaningful community input. We believe great public spaces should be accessible, equitable, and resilient—principles that guide every decision we make throughout the design and implementation process.

Address the challenges of climate change and sea-level rise with SCAPE's specialized waterfront and coastal resilience design services. Our approach goes beyond conventional engineering solutions to create living, adaptive shorelines that protect communities while enhancing ecological function and public access. We design systems that work with natural processes rather than against them, creating landscapes that evolve and strengthen over time.

This service is essential for coastal municipalities, state agencies, waterfront property owners, and communities in New York facing flooding, erosion, and habitat loss. We develop comprehensive resilience strategies that integrate green infrastructure, habitat restoration, and public amenities to create multi-benefit solutions. Our process includes vulnerability assessments, hydrodynamic modeling, stakeholder engagement, and phased implementation planning to ensure practical, fundable projects.

SCAPE brings particular expertise to complex waterfront challenges, as demonstrated in projects like Living Breakwaters and Resilient Boston Harbor Vision. Our team understands the regulatory landscape governing coastal work and has experience securing funding through FEMA, state resilience programs, and other sources. We create designs that not only mitigate risk but also create new recreational opportunities, educational spaces, and ecological corridors.

Choosing SCAPE means selecting a partner with proven success in designing and implementing nature-based solutions at scale. We combine scientific rigor with design innovation to create waterfronts that are safer, more accessible, and ecologically rich—transforming vulnerable edges into community assets that will serve generations to come.

Create inspiring, sustainable outdoor environments for educational, healthcare, and cultural institutions with SCAPE's institutional landscape architecture services. We design campus landscapes that support institutional missions, enhance user experience, and demonstrate environmental leadership. Our approach balances functional requirements with aesthetic excellence to create spaces that facilitate learning, healing, contemplation, and community.

This service serves universities, schools, hospitals, museums, libraries, and other institutions in New York seeking to improve their outdoor facilities, create signature spaces, or develop comprehensive campus master plans. We work closely with facility managers, administrators, faculty, students, and community stakeholders to understand unique programmatic needs and create designs that support diverse activities while maintaining operational efficiency.

SCAPE's institutional projects, like the Greenpoint Library & Environmental Education Center, showcase our ability to integrate building and landscape seamlessly while creating outdoor spaces that serve as living laboratories for sustainability and ecological education. We specialize in designing landscapes that manage stormwater on-site, support native habitats, reduce urban heat island effect, and provide accessible outdoor learning and gathering spaces.

What distinguishes our institutional work is our commitment to creating landscapes that tell a story and reinforce institutional identity. We develop custom design vocabularies that reflect each institution's values and history while incorporating best practices in sustainable design. Our team manages the complexities of working within existing campus infrastructures, phasing construction around academic calendars, and ensuring designs meet accessibility standards and maintenance capabilities.

Partnering with SCAPE brings an interdisciplinary team experienced in navigating institutional approval processes, working with multiple stakeholders, and creating designs that will evolve gracefully over decades of campus life.
