On a Semi Annual Heating & Air Conditioning Check Up (pre-paid Service Contract with Andrew D Cooper Heating and Air Conditioning), the Service Tech removed the Capacitor from the Air Conditioning Compressor (a one minute process). The Tech advised me that the Capacitor was not at full power and should be replaced. I okayed the replacement and was told that they would bill me for the new part. I received the bill the following week. I was billed $286 for the new Capacitor. Thinking that this seemed to be a ridiculously high price, I researched pricing for the exact same Capacitor and found that the Retail Price was $21.95. That equates to a 1300 % price markup over Retail Pricing. After calling the company to find out why they were Ripping Me Off, they hung up on me. As a Retired Senior Citizen I suspect that they thought I would just pay their Rip Off Price. Beware of this company’s integrity (or lack thereof).
Sounds like an issue that the California Department of Consumer Affairs would be interested in.

As a Ph.D. Engineer, I know HVAC systems. These days so much depends on the quality of the installation. The NATE certified tech, Danny, was terrific. I am sure I will be trouble-free for years. Corey and Tom Jr were a pleasure to do business with.

***LQQKing for Excellence? **WORTH THE READ**
If you're in my situation or want quality work & HVAC system.
*************UPDATE 7-25-24 at bottom*****************
I became a customer with Cooper H&A, in Dec, 2000. Tom is the Owner and since installation, my Carrier equipment has operated smoothly, with zero issues. June, 2024, my forced air furnace inducer motor decided to stop spinning. I'd probably stop spinning too, after almost 24yrs. Considering all the working parts, the average life of an HVAC system from 2000, might be 15-20yrs. However, my Carrier system has gone above & beyond that and done extremely well compared to other brands.
Now, as a result of non working part, I'm beginning a new job with Cooper next week. Now, due to found rodent activity in the ductwork and hoping it's not a *Pet Sematary* (Cemetary:) I now need to play contractor and coordinate the work of 2 companies. HVAC and Attic Insulation w/rodent proofing. For attic insulation they come in to remove insulation, do rodent proofing and in 2 weeks make sure no new rodent activity, then lay new insulation and they're done.
For Cooper, they are the company being inconvenienced as they'd normally come in 1 day and finish the next day. This time that isn't possible. This is when you find out the level of customer service and orientation of a company. Cooper is reflectiing their professionalism in a significant way by coordinating their work around another company, at my request. They now need to reschedule their crew, which allows me, the customer, to take care of another problem, completely unrelated to HVAC work.
To those who have left unflattering reviews, I do get it. We all like and want to be treated as if we are the only customer. I owned and operated 2 flower shops back in the 80s, so I've been on both sides of the counter, and believe me, I had a few customers who complained about EVERYTHING. Plus, when your business is working with perishables, complainers cost a business $$$$. These are usually the spoiled brats who grew up to become entitled adults. As a business owner there are people who don't give a damn how nice you are, they're going to create a reason to leave a negative comment, make it all about themself & then continue in life to piss & moan all the way to Forest Lawn---sad.
Once my job is completed I will be leaving a followup review about the work. I've found Tom, the owner, to always be accomodating, even back when my HVAC was originally installed. He always reflects a professional, yet friendly, demeanor.
Please check back mid Aug. with the followup on completed job. Appreciate you taking time to read and please give a thumbs up. It's more for the business, than the reviewer.
Thanks!! You Earn Respect

Today Cooper team Danny & Gabe came to the house and removed ductwork and arriving on time. They first protected my wood floor and immediately began removal of all ductwork. They were professional, worked efficiently and cleaned up. When I asked questions, each communicated specifics about the job, which I found to be very helpful. I have 9 vents in a very tight attic and they were able to remove everything in about 2hrs. They will return for completion once our insulation and rodent proofing is complete. Tom, the owner, has been extremely flexible with this scheduling and I highly recommend Cooper for your heating & air conditioning needs. Final update follows completion.

Called them out to get a quote for a new system. They sent the quote a few days later. I sent several follow-up emails asking for more details, but they never responded. I finally tried calling. The person who answered took a message, but they never called me back.
